Don't let the massive surroundings intimidate you — bike away
Don't fall off the singletrack!
Reach new heights aboard your bike
You'll need a long shower after kicking up all that dirt...
Don’t be afraid to grip your handlebars tight and sit up in your seat as you coast and pedal your way through Fruita’s rugged mountain-bike trails. The two-day Fruita Fat Tire Festival is less than a month away — May 3–5, 2019 — and it’s time to get ready for mountain-biking season.
Fruita, about 20 minutes north of Grand Junction in western Colorado, is home to mesas and red-rock formations, and the North Fruita Desert is where mountain bikers from around the world travel to support their passion for trail riding.
With the festival celebrating its 24th year, you can do a lot more than just bike around. There will be a Bike Demo where you can test out the latest bikes. And you can walk through downtown Fruita to check out the Product Expo, where dealer tents are full of biking equipment. Yes, you do need that cycling widget you didn’t previously know about.
But the event is really about hopping on your bike and taking off, right? Well, then get on the list for a guided ride; the first being the Kessel Run, which takes you up the Prime Cut trail and down through the Kessel Run. You’ll wheel your way along singletrack, hop rocks, and zoom through tree groves. Or go on the Pumps, Bumps and Rollers ride, which is two miles of nonstop banked turns, keeping you in the air for a large amount of the journey.
Are you bringing the kids with you? There is free fun for kids of all ages, with small obstacles and bike-safety checks. The kids can learn new bike skills before heading out on your next family ride.
After you’ve washed away all that dirt, head to the Fruita Street Party downtown. There will be a beer garden and live music from Alex Stockum, Peach Street Revival and El Camino Burnout.
With a little less than 10 days until the event, get your plans in order to participate in some of the most epic mountain biking in western Colorado.
