RMNP — Just Waiting to be Trekked
Get Your Remote On in the Flat Tops
Like most of life's greatest adventures, the Wildland Trekking Co. started in a garage. The company began in 2005 with a bunch of backpacks, trekking poles and hands pointing to maps of future destinations. It all began with the simple passion of three guys who truly believed that providing hiking and backpacking tours into wild and scenic landscapes is meaningful and profound work. The company’s motto and commitment is “Unforgettable Hiking Vacations.”
The goal of each trip is that someone does something that sticks with them for years to come, and every time someone thinks back on a trip, they feel a sense of fulfillment, inspiration and accomplishment.
Even more importantly, we want the trip to spark a desire for advocacy for our lands and to keep getting out there. We create this spark with creative and delicious backcountry cuisine, hand-picked and well-thought-out itinerary planning, top-of-the-line gear, the best guides in the industry, a dedication to conservation and the shared, company-wide collective passion for each trip to be one to remember.
Wildland Trekking Co. has come a long way since the garage with an average of 9,000 people joining tours annually. Colorado trips include Rocky Mountain National Park for spectacular backpacking, portered trips (where a trusty mule, horse or llama carries most of your gear), inn-based tours (hike by day and sleep in cabins, huts or lodges by night), basecamp tours (vehicle-accessible camps where you can set up a homebase to return to at the end of each day), snowshoe tours and day hikes; as well as a few Flat Tops Wilderness backpacking trips (east of Meeker), where you carry everything you need in gear provided by Wildland and meals are prepared by your expert guide.
"For me, the Colorado Rockies are the most beautiful mountains in the U.S., with all the alpine terrain and abundance of rivers and creeks. We wanted people to see and feel what we have always seen and felt here," says Scott Cundy, one of Wildland’s owners. The Colorado branch of the company is based out of Lyons, with easy access to the national park.
