Spoke and Vine Motel

Spoke and Vine Motel

Set in the high desert of Palisade, Spoke and Vine echoes two of the region’s prominent attractions: amazing biking and primo vino. But that’s not all! Palisade is a vacation paradise brimming with things to do, from floating down the Colorado River to stocking up on famous Palisade peaches at u-pick orchards — with the motel waiting to welcome you (and your pup!) after an adventure-filled day.

The owners say, “This is NOT your grandpa’s motel,” but we haven’t met your grandpa. If he’s into cycling decor, locally sourced breakfasts, coffee and wine — along with comfy beds, welcoming hosts and a contemporary vibe — this could very well be his motel. Oh, and if he likes being able to walk to restaurants, farm stands and drinkeries serving up craft beer, wine and mead, then this might definitely be his motel.

What makes it special?

Honestly, it’s Jeff and Jody, the hosts, who are known for making all their guests feel right at home. Whether you need help with bike rentals or recommendations for how to best spend your vacay days, they’ve got you covered. Jeff has even driven people to dinner so they wouldn’t miss their reservations by walking! And this abundance of good energy spills over into the rooms themselves. A quick glance around is all you need to understand the love they pour into the Spoke and Vine.

The most “Colorado” thing about this place

It’s all the trimmings! Spoke and Vine features local artists in their rooms and the goodies they offer — like breakfast, coffee and wine samples — are sourced from area farms and merchants, too. You’ll literally have a bit of Colorado on your walls, in your mug and on a plate.

Coolest amenity

We don’t like being limited to one, so how about two? First, when you check in, you’re welcomed with Colorado hospitality and samples of local wines. Yes, please and thank you. Second, you can rent cruiser bikes right at the motel. Reserve some wheels when you book your room, so you can take a cycling tour of Palisade’s orchards, lavender farms and vineyards, snacking and sipping at tasting rooms and farm stores along the way.

Our favorite traveler review

“My boyfriend and I travel a lot for work and have seen every style of hotel/motel imaginable. We have decided that this was our favorite stay ever. It’s so personal. It’s owned by a husband and wife, who I assume are big biking fanatics like us. I totally suggest the winter wine tour; every winery owner was super down to earth, and the wine is incredible. Breakfast is included and delivered to your room. I felt so well taken care of in this safe and clean location. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.” — Aubree S., Google

Things to see and do nearby

You’re in the land of milk and honey — or wine and peaches, rather — so don’t miss out on area wineries, orchards and farm stands during your stay. You’ll also find ample outdoor adventure. The rust-red monoliths of Colorado National Monument are a 30-minute drive west. A little more than an hour jaunt east lands you on Grand Mesa — the world’s largest flat-top mountain and also home of the new Palisade Plunge (32 miles of downhill singletrack thrills for MTBers). Or hop on the Unaweep Tabeguache scenic byway, where canyons, ghost towns and wilderness awaits.
