Sleepy Hollow Cabin

Sleepy Hollow Cabin

Enjoy the tranquil sounds of the Arkansas River’s South Fork while you chill in this secluded mountain cabin surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest in Monarch. Near Highway 50, Sleepy Hollow Cabin is just 4 miles to outdoor adventures at Monarch Mountain and 16 miles to dining and art galleries in the charming town of Salida.

This vacation cabin ups the ante as you escape into nature for the ultimate summer or ski vacation. Its numerous picture windows let in ample sunlight and offer views of the surrounding mountains and the Continental Divide. The tasteful and modern rustic decor features burnished hardwood floors, sturdy rocking chairs, plus handcrafted log stairs and beams. A Waterford gas log stove adds warmth to the main level living area as well. Extended families and groups of friends will love it here — a party of 12 can sleep comfortably in bunk, queen and king beds, and everyone will fit around the long dining table with bench seating.

What makes it special?

Each room on the lower level features a door that opens to an expansive wooden deck overlooking the rushing river, which is essentially a babbling creek at this location. Listen to the chirping birds and the mesmerizing sound of the water quickly flowing downstream over the rocks. A boardwalk leads from the cabin to the bridge over the river. Stand there and absorb the surroundings — it’s absolutely breathtaking.

The most Colorado thing about this place

Well, this cabin is at the top of a hill at the end of a long road — so when that Colorado-sized dose of snow hits you’ll need a four-wheel or all-wheel vehicle to reach your cozy home away from home. Enjoy the ride!

Our favorite traveler review

“We had such a fantastic stay at Sleepy Hollow. It was a great weekend away from Denver with my nine girlfriends. We hiked, visited the hot springs and spent an afternoon in Salida. The house had plenty of space for all of us. The kitchen and living room were very spacious. Wish we had more time to explore the surrounding area!” — Lindsey H., Vrbo

What you’ll find nearby

Winter sports opportunities reign here, but this area is also a water wonderland in the summer. Go kayaking and fishing in the deep-blue Boss, North Fork and O’Haver lakes. Add a dose of excitement to your trip with a whitewater-rafting adventure on the roaring Arkansas River. Summer also brings plenty of opportunities to soak in Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort’s toasty hot springs, go hiking or biking on the scenic trails, and set off on an adventurous four-wheeler excursion. Family-fun trips include soaring through the treetops or climbing the face of a mountain at Captain Zipline and exploring ghost towns and former mining camps just outside Salida.
