The most “Colorado” thing about this place

How about the outdoor concierge ready to plan your hiking, biking, rafting, ziplining, climbing or horseback-riding adventure? They’re pretty obsessed with the recreational wonderland they call “home” and love to share it with their guests.

Most striking feature

Private cabins here are a far cry from what you might imagine — they’re really more like smallish, modern luxury homes built with high-end finishes and lots of embellishments. Rustic wood fireplace mantels feature original planks from the historic Royal Gorge Bridge and coat racks with hooks are made from repurposed rail spikes dating back to the 1800s.

Coolest amenity

Each of the resort’s glamping tents boast an outdoor firepit, grill and campfire kit so you can make delicious meals with the fam or just cozy up for ghost stories and steaming hot chocolate.

Quirkiest thing to expect

The glamping options are anything but rustic. Built on redwood decks, these “tents” include comfortable beds and linens, lamps, love seats, desks and outdoor porches with chairs and tables. They’re perfect for folks who only like to rough it a little bit.

Best room to book

If you’re traveling with a group, especially with kids, the uber-spacious Double King Cabins feature plenty of sleeping room, an extra half-bath, three flat-screen TVs, fully equipped kitchenettes and separate outdoor dining spaces. You can host some delicious family dinners followed by a game night with all this space.

Top sensory experience you’ll encounter

Frequently topping lists of the most exciting, highest and best ziplines in the country, Adventures Out West (based in Colorado Springs) will provide a rush like no other. Their natural-terrain course in Manitou Springs uses rock cliffs and the steep wooded forest to take you to a height of more than 6,500 feet as you fly through the air! Ask Royal Gorge Cabins’ concierge for help booking this wild ride.

Our favorite traveler review

“The Royal Gorge Cabins at Echo Canyon River Expeditions are phenomenal … very contemporary and have huge windows that look out toward some beautiful mountain views. They are totally spotless inside and the king-size bed is extremely comfortable. The bathroom has a huge shower and a nice towel selection. Be sure to go over to 8 Mile restaurant across the road and enjoy the rustic but contemporary bar and restaurant, with some great views from a large patio.” — kansascity000, Tripadvisor
