Fishers Peak Retreat

Fishers Peak Retreat

Set just 15 minutes from the charming town of Trinidad — with phenom views of the hulking flat-topped Fishers Peak — Fishers Peak Retreat is a quaint little getaway that’ll blow your mind. Whether you’re after solitude, a jumping-off point for outdoor adventure or proximity to Trinidad’s inspirational art scene, you’re in the right place.

If you’re looking for a vacation spot where you can truly disconnect, you’ve found it. This rustic adobe cabin has all the cozy touches you need to escape life’s hustle and bustle, from a wood-burning stove and outdoor hammock to sunrises and sunsets so astounding you’ll write home about ’em. Though the cabin does have modern-day amenities, like Wi-Fi and a TV, we suspect you won’t need them.

What makes it special?

Hands down, it’s all the quirky artistic flair. A moose-antler chandelier illuminates the small kitchen, while a handcrafted stained-glass shower adds a bit of magic to routine activities like hair washing. All throughout the cabin, you’ll find unique touches such as this, right down to the golden gnarled-branch towel racks, which were made from salvaged wood.

The most “Colorado” thing about this place

There’s very little about this cabin that isn’t “Colorado.” But if we had to pick one thing, we’d say the nature. You’ll be tucked away amongst lush evergreen forests where wild turkeys gobble softly as they waddle by. Hike up stone stairways to enjoy the property’s wilderness and find outstanding views of the state in every direction.

Top sensory experience you’ll encounter

Let’s go back to the artwork, because we just can’t get enough of the stained glass in this place. The shower is a kaleidoscope of bright hues and yellow wildflowers peep up at you from its floor. The window in the sunroom lets in colored shafts of light, perfect for enjoying a book in the overstuffed beanbag chair. And is a cabin even worth staying in if it doesn’t have a stained-glass window depicting a silver pony happily trotting about?

Our favorite traveler review

“This is simply an amazing place. The peace and serenity we experienced while watching sunrises and sunsets over the mountains was incredible. The deck by the old shack provides a beautiful panoramic view of Fishers Peak and the surrounding area. Karen and Dale are great people and so kind to their guests. If you need a couple of days to decompress, enjoy quiet and nature plus a small, but interesting town nearby, this is it!” — Don, airbnb
