Claremont Inn & Winery

Claremont Inn & Winery

Located on Colorado’s eastern plains in Stratton, the Claremont Inn & Winery is a luxurious surprise right in the middle of farm country. Expect to see rolling acres of corn, wheat, soybeans and even sunflowers as you explore the agriculture-rich region.

With its intoxicating combination of chef-cooked food, vino and a relaxing ambiance, entering the grounds of this elegant Colorado country inn is like stepping into a dream. Stroll the gardens, sip house-made wines and savor a locally sourced meal, then whisk away to an opulent guest room for the night. You’ll find yourself charmed and pampered.

What makes it special?

The inn’s food and wine alone make the Claremont worthy of a visit, but the mansion itself? It’s, like, wow! From stately columns, towering ceilings, Palladian windows and black-and-white tile floors to elegant decor and perfectly manicured grounds, the grand structure that anchors the property is Instagram-worthy in every way.

The most “Colorado” thing about this place

That’s an easy one. The inn’s Colorado Room exudes a cool and relaxing “mountain lodge feel,” and you’ll find lots of extra space by the sun-lit windows perfect for unwinding with a good book.

Coolest amenity

Don’t miss the “pick your own movie” theater, offering hundreds of vintage and modern films, comfy recliners and plenty of popcorn!

Quirkiest thing to expect

Not only do you get to sample the small-batch wines here, but you can also make your own. The winery’s knowledgeable staff will guide you through the process of selecting a vintage and bottle, then you can design a custom label for it.

Best room to book

With every room featuring its own unique character, it’s hard to pick just one as “the best.” There’s the Sunset Room’s sweeping views of the Colorado plains, plus the cheery Secret Garden Room and intimate Red Room that are both popular for honeymoons. But we’re booking the garden-terrace Roman Spa Room to indulge in the whirlpool tub, fluffy robes, fully stocked fridge, big-screen TV and private massage table.

Top sensory experience you’ll encounter

If you want the ultimate sensory overload, book the inn’s popular “Taste, Dine & Stay” package. You’ll enjoy luxe accommodations and access to all the property’s amenities, plus a complimentary happy-hour wine tasting with appetizers, an indulgent chef’s menu dinner and a full country breakfast the next morning.

Our favorite traveler review

“Such a lovely surprise to discover this jewel! My husband and I have enjoyed our two visits in the last three months. The room was so well decorated and comfortable. The chef was easily able to accommodate my dietary needs. The wine tasting was fun since several other guests joined us with lively conversation. And the wine ... delicious!” — misskk2014 on Tripadvisor

Things to see and do nearby

In addition to the pampering you came for, the inn also offers periodic cooking classes, supper clubs, murder mystery dinners and sip-and-paint events to ramp up the fun. Drive into the prairie town of Stratton for ice cream at Handi’s, a game at the nine-hole Stratton Golf Course and for nearby parks and recreation areas. You’ll also find Old Town Museum and the historic Kit Carson County Carousel just a 20-minute drive away in Burlington.
